I agree. People who are getting bent out of shape about this really need to listen to the speech in its entirety. "Can't." Not "won't." For Ukraine (and Russia) to continue, Putin cannot continue to be Russia's leader.
Relations with Putin are already at rock bottom, so I’m not as worked up over Biden’s comment as others. Putin doesn’t care how many people die, including himself and his own citizens. It’s a bit like someone attempting to commit suicide by cop. Except this time Putin knows that if he succeeds at that, the cop probably dies as well. That’s the dare. That’s the reality of the threat of mass destruction.
We can probably help the Ukrainians hold the line as long as there’s enough of them left in the country but the rest is really up to the Russian people. I can only hope enough truth is getting around the firewall. And you look at the numbers. 15,000 or more dead Russian soldiers. 30,000 Russians (those without European passports) fled to Georgia in the past month alone. Those with EU passports escaping to Finland and the Baltics by the thousands. All of these people trying to communicate with friends and family back in Russia. “Nothing to see here” can’t work forever but that will take time. I guess that’s what passes for optimism.
The government is doing a stellar job of cutting Russians off from information. I hope the hackers and the Russian families who are paying attention can stem the tide.
Every sane person on the planet wants him out of power.
The 11th Commandment:
Thou shalt not be a bystander.
Amen.
He spoke the truth. Biden has been thinking about this for a long time, long before he became president.

Here’s a week old Axios article that gives some hope.

This DOES give me hope.
