The patriarchy swallowed the feminine divine, so her husband swallowed Themis in the story.

This is an excellent point. Christianity repeated the pattern.

Yes, it did and it has, and now it is playing out in the politics of empire, which has always been patriarchal.

Right. Even for non-believers, this has an effect.

A little worship can go a long way. Frequently the wrong way.

“When you worship power, compassion and mercy will look like sins.

When you worship power, the harsher the treatment towards your “enemies,” the more righteous it will look.

When you worship power, the value and dignity of others is solely measured by their conformity to you.”—Benjamin Cremer

I went with a Trinity: Mnemosyne, Athena, Themis.

Gotta have a button. I have always had a deep admiration for Lady Justice. As a child I didn't know what else to call her. I love knowing who she is and her mythology history. I want to believe that in our democracy Lacy Justice is blind and believes that decisions are made only using Truth and Justice then is done.

Just wish like heck it was so. And sadly, know in my heart at the Capitol Lady Justice will rarely be granted entry.

I so love your story especially as it comes the day after my good friend and pastor of our inner city church was removed by the Archbishop, accusing him of taking funds from the church. Susan, you know Father Jacobs who I have known for over 20 years. He lives like a pauper and teaches us to always act as Jesus taught us to act, think The Beatitudes! Our poor inner city church attracts a wonderful group of volunteers who feed, clothe and visit the poor. We give considerable amounts of “stuff” to the shelters surrounding us and host full course free meals on Christmas and Easter where attendees are also given toiletries and clothing. The AB despatched an entourage including an acolyte who “celebrated” Mass which we watched via livestream as we are in SC. In ‘the church’ there is NO justice! The misogynist leaders live a life of privilege that would make Jesus cringe! This Bishop formerly served as Cardinal Law’s secretary, think “Spotlight!” My 73+ years as a Catholic are coming to an end, Themis can’t save us…..🙁

Oh wow. But I disagree about Themis. I mean, the goddess cannot save us, but adherence to the rule of law -- legal, administrative, church -- will. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Very sad indeed. I am sorry that someone who encouraged doing so much good was treated so poorly. And sad for your what seems like extreme disappointment as well. We continue to welcome many former Catholics in my little protestant church. We pride ourselves in welcoming all.
