As Thomas said, “ I am sick of being sick”. I watched all of the videos and felt like it was the 1800s and they were going after a runaway slave. The inhumanity was nauseating. The anger that he had managed to get up and try to get away from the attack, was palpable.

Like news everyday of mass killings, this has to be fixed. We are better than this.

I've read some incredible essays by Black men about reducing (there's a better word for this) a man to crying out for his mother. I mean, my God.

Another unnecessary death caused by a "gang" who shamed every good officer who leaves home each day facing untold danger.

This is of course not the first time, even in recent years, when it was said that all mothers were summoned when a Black man being killed by police cried out for his mother: the same was said of George Floyd.

Of course, women as well as Black USians are being systematically disempowered currently.

The problem, clearly, is not limited to law personnel. The entire set of interlocking law enforcement, court, and imprisonment institutions need overhaul. As it is, we're just continuing to pay, pay off, sustain, validate, and support local warlords.

I am sick of being sick about stories like this

I am sick of being infuriated about stories like this

There’s no vaccine to take that can cure my feelings of nausea , anger and frustration

If there’s any silver lining , which there is not , it’s not hearing pushback from the goofballs like the George Floyd story had

Even the few that chimed in were muted and they even admitted it was sickening

I have friends a family in law enforcement so I get it

I know that not all officers are brutal thugs

I know people in law enforcement so I know that drug and alcohol abuse exists in some of the ranks

I know that some go in with anger and emotional issues

I am sick of these issues not being addressed properly

I am sick of being sick

I would suggest that there is no silver lining. The response was muted because the officers involved were Black, so of course they are not being defended.

We also are not hearing much conversation about internalized racism and its role in the perpetuation of institutional racism.

Interesting piece here (from, of all sources, Forbes!): https://www.forbes.com/sites/shaunharper/2023/01/27/5-black-memphis-cops-upheld-institutional-and-cultural-racism-in-tyre-nichols-murder/?sh=6d9ede54220a

I’ve been stopped for speeding and broken tail lights. And Denver have I been dragged out of a car and beaten to death. White privilege.

I don’t know, but this reminds of the brutality of the kapos in the nazi camps, many were Jews. The origins of the police rests on men hunting and torturing runaway slaves. If we remain silent and peaceful, will we (as lily white pale nobility) be complacent? I mean, what DOES it take? Soon we will meet with armed resistance when we take to the streets??? I am pessimistic about the integrity of a system hell bent on killing innocent people. Not only that, it occurs to me that we face not only abject and sanctified racism but class-ism too.

I hope we start talking about cop culture, and units such as the one these five police officers belonged to.

My heart aches for Tyre, his family, and our country. What have become in this nation? It makes me angry to see this brutality, and I feel helpless to do anything. So I weep and pray. We must address this "cancer", as a country, with the support of our government, local and national. Parents must instill in their children a strong senses of morality, tolerance, personal space, and above all kindness and caring for others. I think it's also important to teach our kids about the atrocities we as humans have committed. They must be educated and SEE the results and the pain of these actions. It's a dream, but it has to start somehow.
