I've told this story before but it is worth repeating. When I was shopping my homeowners insurance one company's underwriter asked if there was a dog in the house, I replied do you ask if there is a gun in the house?!? The moral of my simple story is if you have a pup you are a greater risk than if you have a AR-15! F the gun manufacturers, they are no different than drug dealers in my book!
I'd forgotten about that, where dog ownership might make your insurance premiums go up, but gun ownership? No problem. I believe your comment has moved me to write more about this, so thank you.
When we eloped to Delaware many years ago, we had to apply for a marriage license, swear that we weren’t related (I wanted to say “but we got different daddies”), then wait five days to get married. However, we could have walked into a gun shop, purchased a weapon and walked out on the same day. Go figure.
Go Mexico. Hope Mexico is as successful as the Sandy Hook families were when they sued Remington. It will likely be years before there is a resolution.
I sigh and shake my head a lot these days. People used to want to bring our models of education, technology, civil rights, etc. into their countries. I guess we export different things now.
I appreciate your sharing it. I don't often share this Substack's contents because I think I'm on social media enough already. But then I wonder why more people don't read it. I'd say I suck at self promotion, but it's more "Give them a rest, already."
I appreciate that you have to manage your overal exposure, but just wanted to say I feel like the world could use more of what you're saying. You have a way of clarifying the pratical and moral implications of issues that others obfuscate.
The supply chain of vice knows no borders, yet those in the gun lobby are more likely to toss around the term “globalist” as an accusation and insult. Ironic, no?
Curious though. You used to just say you were stealing stuff and now you’re asking permission. What’s up with that? Are you sure having manners is a good fit?
I remember a trip to Haiti years ago, where beforehand I did all the reading one human could possibly do. Prior to reading, I couldn't figure out how this democracy could be so tragically poor. And then I saw how so many U.S. policies drained resources out of this once-rich country. How could they NOT be poor? I think if we ever sat down and did a reckoning, we'd see a far different world than the one we see now.

(I really wish you'd said, "but we got different daddies.")

Fingers crossed.

Important and beautifully written.
Is this one shareable to non-subscribers?
I believe so, yes. And thank you.
Thank you! It's gorgeous!

I agree!
That's very kind of you. I am very aware of being a member of the shouting crowd and don't want to be that thing on your porch. But thank you.
I'm in the "cheap seats" (non-suscriber), and here I am.

It's hard to argue out of both sides of your mouth. I'd like to steal that "the supply chain of vice knows no border." May I?
Sure, go ahead.
Curious though. You used to just say you were stealing stuff and now you’re asking permission. What’s up with that? Are you sure having manners is a good fit?
It's a horrible fit. Forget I asked. I'll just steal it and pretend it's mine.
Good news! Isn’t it amazing how America never thinks about how we contribute to problems in other countries!
How can we work with Mexico to control the cartels when our gun companies are fueling them!

Haiti is so close to us yet so far....very, very sad situation that hardly gets notice:((
That trip changed me profoundly. I figured it would, but I didn't realize the magnitude.
