The House Select Committee to Investigate Jan. 6th Attack on the United States Capitol has signaled that it will aggressively enforce subpoenas of former Trump officials. According to this Washington Post article, their special purpose right now is
Jeffrey Clark, a Trump Justice Department official who sought to deploy department resources to support former president Donald Trump’s false claims of massive voting fraud in the 2020 election.
You can read more about Mr. Clark, former acting assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice, here, in a Senate judiciary committee report where the lil’ minx is mentioned 250 times.
I’m with Rep. Lynn Cheney (R-Wyoming) (and I know) on this. If people ignore subpoenas, slap ‘em with criminal charges and slap ‘em hard. Do we or do we not embrace the rule of law? If treating seriously the obligation to answer a subpoena is good enough for the likes of you and me, it’s good enough for the likes of Mr. Clark, no matter what crap legal advice his former boss gives him. Otherwise — if members of the former administration continue to ignore subpoenas — what’s to stop me from assuming that is an option available to me, a regular citizen. Holy cow, but that means my twilight years are about to get really, really interesting.
We never get the justicevwe deserve, sadly.
None taken, Susan. And I pray you’re right! 🤞
