If you’re not a believer, forgive me this rumination, but if we are putting ecclesiastic bells and smells and rituals and rules above our love of our neighbors (broadly-defined “neighbors”) then we are spinning our wheels and propping up religion at the expense of those neighbors. I don’t find scriptural backing for that.
