Today’s scripture is Matthew 5:38-40:
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.
I think about this verse quite a bit, and then I blow right through it and slap back.
But IF I wanted to learn about turning the other cheek, I could watch the public behavior of people such as New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at her by TFG and his minions (including being called a “racist” and “Peekaboo” by TFG — and that latter could be for any number of reasons though his former fixer blames TFG’s dementia). Her response? At the conclusion of TFG’s civil fraud trial today in New York, she said outside the courthouse:
I want everyone to know that the personal attacks really don’t bother me. This case has never been about politics, or a personal vendetta or about name-calling. The case is about facts and the law, and Mr. Trump violated the law.
She is so admirable, as is the judge and the prosecutor. 🤺⚖️
Romans 12vs 20-21:
Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.
Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.
