I am by no means a Swiftie, but I teach at a college and I get to hear about Taylor Swift’s every new release, change in partnership status, all of it. That makes me Swift-adjacent, I suppose. I have seen (from afar) her lovely Rhode Island mansion but that’s as close I will ever get to the 12-time-Grammy-Award-winning entertainment behemoth.
Taylor Swift is currently dating Kansas City Chief Travis Kelce, and if you want to explore a timeline of their relationship, Today.com has that right here. If you want to see how she interacts with Kelce’s fans, People magazine has that here. If you’re interested in up-to-the-minute status of said relationship, TMZ (through Cosmopolitan) has that here.
Beyond the breathless feature stories, public commentary isn’t all positive, and it’s especially barbed when it comes from a certain man-type. In fact, plenty of Xwitter incels have expended quite a bit of time sharing their distaste for the woman.
The presence of a successful musician and businesswoman at a professional sports event evidently cannot stand.
The nastiness has been picking up since Swift decided to be more outspoken about her politics, though her activism isn’t entirely targeted at the Perennial Defendant. Sometimes, she does something completely non-partisan and civic-minded by encouraging people to vote (with great success, as with the time last year she got 35,000 new voters on the rolls with an Instagram post). She’s a talented woman who is living her best life. I supposed that cannot stand, either.
As for the haters, well, shake it off, Taylor. Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate. Hell with ‘em.
At this point in the political insanity process, we need everyone who can speak up to save Democracy, to do it. Seize the day! 🤺
After watching "Miss Americana"
(available on Netflix), I became a fan. https://youtu.be/q07_k5VKuaQ?si=6D0TTykOqb6kEnGL
I'm not a Swifty, per se. I like some of her music. And, I respect how she tossed out the misogyny and rules placed upon her and took control of her path to be her authentic self as an artist and an activist.
