To send you off into the weekend, this is Cantor Azi Schwartz, senior cantor of Park Avenue Synagogue in New York, singing the hymn, “Ein k’Eloheinu,” to the tune of the late, great Harry Belafonte’s “The Banana Boat Song” (you can watch Mr. Belafonte sing the song live here).
May his memory be a blessing. May this kind of beautiful blend be embraced and celebrated.
I found this, too. It’s wonderful. The Cantor has a FB page filled with great music
I pretty much had Belafonte’s “Live at Carnegie Hall” album memorized when I was a kid. My parents were a bit perplexed that their six year old could sing all the lyrics to “Man Piaba”.
