Your 4th paragraph "See me waving?...) elicited a rather strong memory... me standing in the kitchen of my condo in Cheshire (Mind you, I moved out of there in 1990.) holding whatever section of Mother Courant your column was in and thinking to myself, "She gets it." That's when I realized you were sock puppet worthy. *wink wink*

Thank you for writing this. I shared similar thoughts recently in my own essay:

“Over three decades of teaching in a high school, I’ve witnessed this evolution of identity among teenagers — and with it, the students’ natural acceptance and support of diversity. What has become a bona fide culture war across much of America is generally a non-issue in the halls of my high school.“
