Rep. Gym Jordan (Q-Hell) now officially heads the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which as of this writing just has a Wikipedia page, and may be renamed "the House Select Subcommittee On I Know You Are But What Am I?”
This looks like the latest Republican attempt to punish people who would seek to bring any of members of the GOP to justice, including (but not limited to) the former president and the former president’s minions — including, funny enough, Rep. Jordan, himself, who believes he is the most beleaguered of men but nah. He isn’t. Something Republicans (and the vanguard of their troop, white evangelical Christians) have perfected is crying “victim” to avoid accountability, and may American voters — whatever the stripes — recognize this for what it is.
I am right now devouring “Freedom’s Dominion: A Saga of White Resistance to Federal Power,” by Vanderbilt University professor Jefferson Cowie, and though I’m only a few pages in, the gist of this book is that certain (white) people have historically cried out for “freedom” when what they meant was “freedom to intrude or impede the freedom of others.” Early on, white slaveholders cried “freedom” (and “states’ rights”) in order to justify their freedom to own people. The jokes almost write themselves, although the jokes aren’t that funny.
D.C. right now looks like one big soccer field as an army of “victims” falls to the turf, clutching fake injuries and hoping the ref buys it. It’s just ugly. Please. Don’t buy it.
A good friend who is in the same age range as I says we are in the “departure lounge.” While that is a bit depressing it is also invigorates me to resist Speaker McTrump and his anti-democratic gang! Born and raised in CT and having lived the last few winters in S.C. I realize how fortunate I am to call CT my home. My newly elected Congressman here is a Trump foot soldier who ousted the incumbent who was mortally wounded by voting to impeach 45. Congressman Fry along with Senator Limpseed Graham offer NOTHING for their constituents for improving the widespread poverty, limited access to health care, solid job opportunities, etc. Contrast them to Connecticut’s distinguished and accomplished delegation and you will see why I do LOVE my home state!
It's enough to make you wish that US people had better memories and weren't so dumb, isn't it?
Except I don't *believe* that people are so dumb! (The memory thing unfortunately I have no doubt about.) Which leaves it as beleaguered, lazy, or mean for at least some of it.
