The venerable PGA became a lot less venerable Tuesday when officials announced a merger with LIV Golf, the upstart professional golf tour funded by an organization controlled by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who in 2018 ordered the dismemberment and murder of D.C.-based Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi (pictured).
Some U.S. golfers jumped ship a while ago to collect huge LIV funds. One, who took quite a lot of criticism for signing on to LIV but evidently decided his payday was worth it, spent part of Tuesday trolling.
Bless his heart.
If this part of U.S. professional sports is willing to look the other way, and the U.S. government will continue to shield the perpetrator of such unjust acts from any kind of legal ramifications, there are steps the rest of us can take. Here’s mine: Buh-bye, PGA. Buh-bye professional golf. Long live Jamal Khashoggi. Long live press freedom.
The betrayal of the players that took a stand against MBS is stunning. Plus the lowlifes that are putting them down for taking a that stand. It’s no surprise that poison people like Trump or the characters in “Succession” are folk heroes to some. The cult of hate runs deep.
How do you boycott an organization that you never really supported in the first place???
I don’t golf
I don’t buy golf equipment
I don’t watch golf on tv
I don’t read golf magazines
Even before this merger I had issues with the golfing world
In areas of the country that have been dealing with drought golf courses have been exempt from restrictions
