I was having a conversation yesterday with someone I respect, and the conversation was about our health care system — but because it’s for-profit, it’s not really a health care system, is it?
That was my premise. Specifically, the conversation was about what happens when someone who is homeless is discharged from the hospital. Too often, nothing. They are released to the street with no respite care — not someone who will so much as change a bandage — though not always.
Although it’s a cheap move to make in these kinds of conversations, I brought up the salaries of the CEOs of supposedly non-profit hospital. Compensation can include salary, housing allowances, and all other kinds of perks. No one is saying a hospital CEO job is easy, but we might want to be arguing that an organization’s top executive salary should be tied to the wages of the lowest-paid employee of that organization.
Doing otherwise helps contribute to our tragic income inequality.
So while the House’s recent “big beautiful bill” will hurt the majority of us, it looks like it’s all part of the GOP push to give money to people who have money already.
But at least we can tuck ourselves in at night knowing Mark Zuckerberg can afford another island.
Th House’s middle-of-the-night fuckwittery is what births revolutions. In fact, this kind of middle-of-the-night fuckwittery (on the part of the Democrats) helped give us the Tea Party of the early-oughts.
Do the Democrats need a Tea Party? That linked story says no. At the very least, we need — from Howard Dean — a Democratic wing of the Democratic party.
God dammit! We need Dems with some backbone and the ability to get a few Republicans from drinking the koolaid!
I observed some of the hearing held by the MAGA granny, Virginia Foxx which was simply theater. This morning I watched Jefferies, an excellent orator, plead for “we the people”, more theater. The bill passed by ONE vote with only 2 R’s voting against rewarding billionaires at the expense of a majority of their constituents. Talking is NOT getting it done. Meanwhile the beast in the WH belittles a visiting head of state! Shame on the USA!
