Earlier this week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy threw red meet to members of the (so-called) Freedom Caucus by saying he would launch an “impeachment inquiry” into Pres. Joe Biden, which is as much like an actual impeachment as an email is to the Constitution. He did so without taking a vote (not all moderate Republicans are terribly on board with this), and that was legal, but was it smart? What does one say about that? Only that this whole thing stinks like:
Utah’s Sen. Mitch Romney announced that he will not run for re-election. From Roll Call:
Romney, 76, noted that he would be in his mid-80s at the end of another term. Unlike other octogenarians in Congress who have opted to remain, Romney said it was time for a new generation of leaders to step up. He said he intends to speak on college campuses to encourage young people to vote and run for office.
Yeah, this is lame, but:
Danelo Cavalcante, the escaped (and armed) convict in Pennsylvania, was captured yesterday.
So…who wore it best?
Finally, and in closing, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin have formed an alliance. Slava Ukraini, but has any one told this guy?
Alright, alright. Not every Substack post will be a winner. Check back tomorrow. Things could get better.
Art reflects the times we live in, this post got me picturing Picasso’s Guernnica🙁 which reflected the slaughter carried out by Franco. Professor Richardson’s essay today paints sharp contrasts between endangered democracies and growing autocracies!
