Some 100 years ago, I interviewed Elie Wiesel, and since it was Elie Wiesel, my voice was shaking, I admired him so much.
After the story ran, I received a hand-written note from Mr. Wiesel that said, “Simply? Thank you,” with his signature.. I framed it and it’s hanging in my office, though I didn’t use museum-quality glass and the blue fountain pen ink is fading. Still, that short message struck me as the perfect way to express gratitude.
So: Simply? Thank you.
Thank you for coming to this Substack. I began last January (remember last January?) because I missed the conversations I used to have on my blog, “Dating Jesus.” That blog was meant as a companion piece to a book by the same name, but the blog got bigger than the book ever did.
And that’s fine. I can always make room at the table for fame and wealth, but give me a good conversation and I’m pretty happy.
On some days, Super-Probably has been my oasis. I come here and read your comments and walk away with a greater understanding of all kinds of subjects, or I walk away jealous that I didn’t think of the point you just made when I wrote the original post. Either way, thank you for your participation, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.
Meister Eckhart
Wishing a peaceful, and safe Thanksgiving to all.....the above is from the German mystic, our Priest at Holy Trinity in Hartford often mentions it....simple yet profound
Thank you. Super-Probably is an oasis.
