In 2018, Reality Winner was sentenced to five years, three months in prison after being convicted of leaking information about Russian interference in the 2016 election. It was the longest sentence ever imposed by a federal court for leaking documents to the press. She moved to a transitional facility in mid-June. From the linked Guardian story:
Aged 26, she was the first person charged by the Trump administration under the Espionage Act over a document leak. She pleaded guilty as part of a deal.
That same year, Bill Cosby was sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004 at his Pennsylvania estate. A court overturned that conviction on Wednesday, because of an early no-prosecute deal Cosby made with a district attorney.
Lisa Bloom, an attorney who represented three of the 60 women who accused Cosby of a variety of assault and sex crimes, tweeted:
Well, hey, who'd bother bargaining with a non-wealthy *woman*? We're really easy to convict!
Tangentially, a bunch of conservatives are now sneering publicly about the triviality of what Allen Weisselberg and the Trump organization are currently charged with, who have thought it perfectly appropriate for people like Eric Garner, George Floyd, Brianna Taylor, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, and more and more and more to be killed by police.
