People gathered around the country on Saturday (and Sunday) for #BansOffOurBodies protests after a leaked draft opinion showed that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade, and take away women’s autonomy over their own damn bodies.
I met friends in New London, where maybe 200-250 people gathered with some really awesome signs. We yelled, chanted, and listened to speakers, including Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz and some awesome area high school students.
Some signs were more vulgar than others.
The handmaid said she bought the costume for Halloween back in ‘16, and figured she could retire it after 2020.
I understand precisely what she’s saying. I saw several versions of signs that said, “I can’t believe I am still protesting this shit.” The crowd was all ages, and it wasn’t just women, either.
At one point, I screamed and only after realized right into the ear of a woman standing in front of me. I apologized and she was gracious, and we talked a little. She’s a Republican, bereft at her party’s gutless, moral-less stance (her words) on so many issues, and she is particularly disappointed in Connecticut’s GOP gubernatorial candidate, Bob Stefanowski, who has stayed cagey when it comes to talking about whether he’s pro-choice. But let’s be honest. Bob’s not that cagey. He’s anti-woman and my new friend and I agreed he hasn’t a shot in either hell or in blue, blue Connecticut.
Reproductive choice is codified into our state law. Our legislators have made sure of that, but we can read, and we know that in so many states, any one with a uterus is frantic about this loss of basic human rights. Come to Connecticut. You have aunties here.
Please don't discount Steffi! I NEVER expected my city to go all gQp but.....The electorate is fickle, and in this blue state there are solid pockets of Trumpanzees who don't object to misogyny, mass shootings, anti-semitism, and racial hate....actually that describes their political platform! Beware...
