Alaska’s Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted in favor of the big ugly bill after keeping the nation on tenterhooks, and then she said, from the New York Times:
“Do I like this bill? No,” Ms. Murkowski, who appeared to be quietly seething as she was questioned about her vote, told NBC News. “But I tried to take care of Alaska’s interests. But I know that in many parts of the country, there are Americans that are not going to be advantaged by this bill.”
Yeah. OK. From MSNBC, she allowed that:
“We do not have a perfect bill by any stretch of the imagination,” [Murkowski] told reporters. “My hope is that House is going to look at this and recognize that we’re not there yet.”
So she voted for the bill, but she hopes that U.S. Representatives will fix the bill. This is democracy?
Weirdly, we often find both Murkowski and Maine’s Susan Collins on the precipice of doing the right thing. In fact, Collins was among the three Republicans who said no to this monstrosity. Here the three are:
Call your representative. We are not finished yet.
Murkowski sold out. Period. Full stop.
A better example of the GOP’s utter state of dysfunction is hard to find. Thanks, Sen. Murkowsi.
