It’s no secret that Jesus chose flawed people to be his closest followers, and in the above clip — in a June interview with Christian Broadcasting Networks “The 700 Club” — you can see at the 6:43 mark the Florida governor imagining himself as one of those flawed people chosen as an apostle.
Oh, where to begin. From his political stunts of trafficking humans to his attempts to whitewash all history everywhere, DeSantis, a practicing Catholic, has run a gaffe-prone campaign that has been heavy on the God-talk, and light on the God-action. An earlier campaign ad (“God made me a fighter”) mentioned the creator 10 times in 96 seconds, according to Axios.
This isn’t just me talking. The reaction to DeSantis’s desire to go back in time and cozy up to Jesus was pretty much universal with memes such as:

You get the sense, if you read the Florida papers, that even the locals — who elected him governor — are not buying his unique brand of faith. For a while, this guy was considered the most likely competitor against TFG, who will be busy in court answering multiple accusations. C’mon, Republicans. Do better. Be better.
