Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is suing Alina Habba, interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, and Ricky Patel, special agent in charge of Newark division for Homeland Security Investigations (though the suit argues that Patel was operating outside the scope of his job) for false arrest and malicious prosecution.
Mayor Baraka, if you’ll remember, was arrested in May and held over his attempts to tour an ICE detention center in his town.
The suit is 17 pages long, and includes these gems:
Defendant Habba has made her biased political goals explicit.
and
Egged on by Defendant Patel, who ordered the DHS agents to “take him down” (meaning violently tackle the Mayor of Newark), the agents pushed, shoved and assaulted the Mayor’s security team and members of Congress before violently Mayor Baraka’s arms and and arresting him without probable cause.
The suit includes the following social media post from Habba, who could not resist grinding her Manolo Blahnicks one more time for emphasis.
The charges were eventually dismissed because they were crap in the first place. The suit mentions Magistrate Judge André Espinosa, who suggested that the U.S. attorney’s office had far, far, far overstepped its boundaries.
Espinosa said, “The hasty arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, followed swiftly by the dismissal of these trespassing charges a mere 13 days later, suggests a worrisome misstep by your Office.”
As The New Republic says, Alina Habba is now getting a taste of her own medicine. May she choke on it, the lil’ minx.
Alina is going to get her legal butt kicked from one end of the courtroom to the other.
My previous statement stands:
KANGAROO COURT
They can push us, they can take us to the ground, they can assault us any way they damn well please but heaven forbid we touch them in our defense!
