This week brought us Clarence Thomas and The Tennessee Three, and we haven’t yet explored (at least, at this Substack), mifepristone, leaked classified documents, Fox News (go, Dominion!), as well as the legal rope that’s tightening around TFG’s substantial neck (how delicious).
Not that you asked, but I usually write these lil’ rants before nightfall — though I have ripped up what I had planned if something breaks later in the day and catches my eye. I do not live in front of my computer or my television, but I tend to start looking for…something…before 3 or 4 in the afternoon, in between classes, or waiting for car repairs. I’ll usually type a brief draft and then return to expand it and add links and photos.
(At times, I’ll hear something on the radio and text a short note myself and then go back to see the text and wonder, “What the hell is monkey wash?”)
There is no science as to what attracts my attention, though I am most drawn to the intersection of politics and religion. There is no shortage of topics, and I want to say something I’ve meant to say before: You should feel free to send me ideas (slcampbell417@gmail.com) if something catches in your net and you want to talk about it. I can write a Substack on it and then we can have at it. What I like so much about this venue is the conversations that spring from the rants. I want to make sure you know you have a place in guiding the conversations.
I have learned a lot here, so thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.
I start each day reading your blog followed by Professor Richardson - therapeutic and informative. Thank you.
I just finished reading Armageddon, by Bart Ehrman, followed by God & Empire, by John Dominic Crossan.
I grew up in a church that pretty much ignored the Revelation of John except for a few of the snippets about hope and faith, so the whole muscular Republican Jesus with an AR-15 is foreign to me. Blasphemy, even. These two books went a long way toward explaining why so many who call themselves Christians have chosen the avenging Jesus of Revelation. Jesus of the Gospels, Acts, and Paul's Letters is ancient history. Avenging Jesus is the future. He is going to lead them in the Final Battle, and so they better have guns, guns, and more guns.
Deprogramming them is not an option. We are going to have to find a way forward without them.
