Last week, a truck carrying gasoline crashed and caught fire, and the heat caused a section of north-bound I-95 to collapse in Philadelphia. The heat also damaged the south-bound section to the point that it had to be closed, as well.
It’s hard to explain to non-east-coasters just how important is I-95, which takes travelers from Maine to Florida. At roughly 1,924 miles, the road was one of the jewels in the original Interstate Highway System (thanks, Pres. Eisenhower!).
