Hats off for Rep. Jones, who is fighting the good fight
He's suing over his April expulsion from the Tenn. House
Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, and one of the Tennessee Three, is suing over his expulsion from the Tenn. State House of Representatives. In his suit, Rep. Jones claims that his First Amendment rights were violated, and the defendants include House Speaker Cameron Sexton, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a good ol’ boy more deserving of a lawsuit. In August, Sexton led a vote that silenced Rep. Jones for a day, and if you listened to the debate on the day the House voted to boot Jones and Rep. Justin Pearson, both of whom won back their seats, you could hear the iced-tea-on-the-veranda dripping from Sexton’s attitude and words.
The acts at the center of Rep. Jone’s suit came in the middle of tense discussions about gun laws in the state.
Another member of the Tennessee Three, Rep. Gloria Johnson, is running against incumbent (and imperious and ethically-challenged — wait, here’s another link on that) Marsha Blackburn for U.S. Senate.
If you are so inclined, you can donate to Rep. Johnson’s campaign here. These are the leaders Tennessee — and the rest of us — need.
Blessings and success to each of the Tennessee Three, thus to Tennessee, thus to the nation, thus to the world!
It's horrible that the GOP and its operatives do these sorts of things-- counting, I think, on President Trump having installed a generalized Hilarious Zeitgeist of Bullying.
We need to make each incident our Maine, our Alamo.
