The diapered felon who rapes has backed away from his plan to dismantle FEMA, according to The Washington Post (linked here at Reuters because Jeff Bezos can bite me).
Wait. Not every idiot can see that. Some Texas lawmakers, while first responders are still combing through the mud for bodies from catastrophic flooding in their state, think otherwise, but we haver never looked to the likes of people like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for wisdom.
In fact, Abbott is actually a member of FEMA Review Council, tasked with changing FEMA to better suit Trump’s agenda of small-to-no federal government. At their first meeting in May, Abbott opined:
"FEMA is slow and clunky and doesn't solve the needs of those who need it the most. States have proven that we can move more nimbly, more swiftly, more effectively."
Sure. OK, Greg. Yet there he was requesting funds from FEMA after a flood in central Texas killed 121, a number that’s bound to rise.
So no wonder Abbott isn’t comfortable assigning blame for the needless deaths in the hill country. His name could be fairly high on that list and while so many in the Trump administration try to point to the heavens and put this in God’s lap, nope.
No, no, no, no.
This is on us. Climate change. Bad emergency planning, and a willful dismissal of best practices. As the federal government seems bent on ignoring climate change, until we replace that government, we’d do well to prepare as best as we can for the storm next time.
The idea that every state should have everything ready for any type of emergency is stupidly wasteful for the large states and an impossibility for the small ones. If we don't look out for one another I don't comprehend why we are even a country. So we can terrorize OTHER countries?
I cannot fathom how Texans can abide Greg Abbott.
