Protests can erupt in the strangest of places, including places we don’t often think of as sites for outward expressions of civil disobedience.
Iran is in that country’s third month of street protests after the death of Mahsa Amini while the young woman was held in police custody. The NGO group, Iranian Human Rights, says nearly 500 people have been killed by Iranian security forces — including 60 children. The Islamic Republic of Iran recently acknowledged just 300 protest-related deaths. CNN has reported that those security forces are using rape as a means of quelling protests, which have drawn all ages and genders, but especially college students.
