Good grief. Just went over and Liked her tweet and thanked her. Thanks for the head’s up. If we want some loyal opposition (and I certainly do) we need to treat them decently when they do something decent.

I agree. We need to be supportive when someone bucks the GQP idiocy.

Not to sound too cynical for I also miss the old school northeast, moderate republicans but I wonder what her polling is telling her. To her credit, she’s always been pro-gay and abortion rights so she’s not changing lanes. Plus she matches up pretty well against Blumenthal, polling just ten points behind in the general but the primary? Maybe she’s just sticking to her principles but is there a MAGA/Q-weary segment of the republican primary base that she’s onto? Connecticut republicans are good at turning their back on moderates who would otherwise be viable in the general (Rob Simmons, Erin Stewart). Does Klarides think that’s going to change?

Great questions, all. Remember the phrase “Connecticut Republican,” fiscally conservative but socially liberal? I miss them.

Thanks for writing this Susan. Today, Heather Cox Richardson gave us a history lesson regarding the GOP discussing how Margaret Chase Smith bravely stood up against Joe McCarthy and her party. The accusations of McCarthy resemble those by 45 and his cultists in that they both lack proof! Klarides deserves credit for her tweet, not hateful condemnation.
